The guide gives you the low-down on each approach so you can decide which route is right for you.

Kitchen Cabinet Replacing

If you’re unhappy with the current layout of your kitchen, then replacing your kitchen cabinets is the way to go. But be warned—this is by far the most costly and work intensive option. Replacement requires removal of existing cabinets and may entail rewiring. Additionally, your kitchen could be out of commission for weeks. That said, if done right—the results can be incredible!

When replacing your cabinets, you can choose from stock cabinets, semi-custom cabinets, and custom cabinets. Stock cabinets are the least expensive option, but come “as is” , while custom cabinets can cost tens of thousands of dollars, but allow you to literally create the kitchen of your dreams from whatever material you choose. Semi-custom cabinets are a compromise between the two, allowing the customer to modify cabinet dimensions and components.

Kitchen Cabinet Refacing

If you are a home-owner (or renter, in some cases) content with your kitchen’s layout, refacing may be right for you. Refacing kitchen cabinets entails removing existing doors and veneers, and replacing them with updated models.

This solution is recommended if your cabinets are made from low-grade wood or other materials, such as particle board or low-quality laminates. Cabinet refacing is much cheaper than replacing, and can be completed in just a few days.
